Restoration of 105 E State St

105 E. State Street Restoration Project ...The 1864 structure is owned by Salem’s Mayor Jerry Wolford. Jerry has a long time love of this building because when he was younger he used to clerk in the building when it was used as a drug store. For many years Jerry and his wife have had their businesses occupy this building.

Unfortunately, in May of 2010 a truck hit the building damaging the north west corner of the facade up to the third floor. Structural engineers confirmed the foundation was secure but bricks supporting the west corner of the building were damaged.

Jerry’s insurance company, recognizing the historical significance of the building contracted Belfor Restoration for consultation and repair of the building. According to the Belfor website the company has much experience in historical restoration.

The building will be restored to the look it has been for the past 56 years, since 1955. That was the year that Dana Floding removed the third floor and moved his drug store from across the street where the present Salem Sport Shop is located. Jerry Wolford worked his junior and senior years of high school as a clerk from Mr. Floding.

Be sure and watch the building as it gets restored to its’ grandeur and many thanks to Jerry and his wife for their efforts to preserve the building along with Salem’s Historic Downtown District.
